What is CBT and how could it help you?
CBT is a talking therapy which is proven to effectively treat a wide range of conditions. It looks at how we think about a situation, how this effects how we act and in turn how these two things affect how we feel. CBT focusses on how we think and act, noting what we may have experienced in the past and how this may have moulded and shaped how we think. CBT focusses on current problems and looks at practical solutions to help improve your emotional wellbeing.
CBT looks at helping you make sense of what may seem like an overwhelming problem, by breaking it down into small manageable parts. These smaller parts are your thoughts, feelings, behaviours and even physical sensations. These elements are all connected and can result in you being trapped in a negative cycle. CBT helps you break out of this negative cycle by showing you other ways of thinking and behaving. It is easy to get trapped in a negative cycle, but by changing the way you think or behave can have a significant impact on how you feel.
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

- Generalised Anxiety Disorder/ worry

- Low self esteem/ low confidence
- Insomnia and sleep difficulties

- Long term health conditions (Chronic Pain, COPD, M.E, Fibromyalgia)

What does CBT involve?
Sheena delivers therapy in a safe and confidential environment. The number of sessions will depend on the difficulty you would like help with and will be discussed at your initial assessment session. Sessions are usually 50 minutes, either weekly or fortnightly and therapy normally ranges from 6-20 sessions.
You will discuss your difficulties with Sheena and set goals for you to achieve outside of the sessions. CBT is not a quick fix, it does require work between the therapy sessions which enables you to eventually become your own therapist. Sheena will help and support you in deciding what difficulties you want to work on and together you will work through these difficulties which will then improve how you feel.
Experience and Qualifications
Sheena has significant experience working and studying in the field of mental health and Psychology, having worked for a number of years with adults (16+years) and older adults. Sheena is experienced at working with mild to moderate mental health difficulties and also more severe and enduring mental health difficulties.
Sheena is fully accredited by the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and is also recognised by health insurers.

- PgCert Low Intensity Interventions in Mental Health
- GDip Psychology, BA Joint (Hons) Psychology and Criminology
